Gmail switch to app passwords
On September 30th, 2024, Google will disable the option to connect your Gmail mailbox to Zowie through your Google account password. If you connect to Zowie using your account password, follow the instructions below to ensure continued connection before and after September 30th.
Create the App Password in Google Account
To ensure continued support, you must switch from your account password to an app password. An app password is a more secure way to authenticate your connection. It is supported today and will continue to be supported after September 30th.
To switch from your account password to an app password, follow the steps below:
- Important: To create an app password, you need to have 2-Step Verification enabled on your Google Account.
- Go to "Create and manage your app passwords" in your Google Account. You might have to log in first.
- Provide the name of the app, for example, “Zowie,” and click “Create.”
- Copy the password—you will need it soon.
Replace the Account Password with the App Password
- Log in to your Zowie account.
- Go to Inbox > Settings > Mailboxes.
- Select the mailbox you want to update. If you have multiple Google mailboxes connected, you must change the password for each mailbox.
- Replace the IMAP and SMTP passwords with the previously created app password.
- Click “Save” in the upper right corner to save the changes.
If you encounter any issues generating app passwords, refer to official Google instructions for more help.
